South Carolina: 2012 Best Rx Assistance Program Rankings

A recent poll conducted by industry professionals at RxResource.org focused on the best ways to cut costs on prescription drugs.

The poll results focused on the top three prescription assistance programs in South Carolina. South Carolina Drug Card out-ranked all other programs and came in number one. Below are the results and details from the poll:

1. South Caroina Drug Card - South Carolina Drug Card is a free statewide prescription assistance program that was launched in August of 2007. The program is open to all residents of South Carolina regardless of age or income.

2. Welvista - Welvista is a nonprofit organization that provides access to free prescription medications and pediatric dental services for the uninsured and underinsured. You must be a resident under the age of 65. You must meet income criteria as established by Welvista. You must not be covered by any form of health insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare and Veteran's health benefits. If you or someone in your household has income, it must be at or below 200% of the Federal Property Level to qualify. Welvista requires a $20 non-refundable application processing fee with each new or renewed application.

3. South Carolina CHIP - South Carolina CHIP is a program that provides Medicaid coverage for underinsured children who live in families with income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level. Children must also be state residents and under 19 years of age.
